SUFFERN, N.Y., June 8, 1999 - General Patent Corporation
International (GPCI) has entered into a license agreement
with Tokyo Electron Ltd. with respect to GPCI's Connector
Interface Patent. This basic "smart connector"
patent (U.S. Patent No. 4,603,320) broadly covers electronic
connectors with embedded intelligence including certain
computer communications devices in PCMCIA form-factor.
"So far, we have licensed our patents to many
manufacturers in the US," said Alexander Poltorak,
GPCI's Chairman and CEO. "We are pleased to welcome
Tokyo Electron, a Japanese company, as our first overseas
licensee."
The licensed patent, owned by Acticon Technologies
LLC, a division of General Patent Corporation International,
is a part of a portfolio of patents related to smart
connectors, PC Card modems and other PCMCIA communication
devices. Acticon Technologies has successfully licensed
these patents to such industry leaders as IBM, Motorola,
Xircom and many others. Several patent infringement
lawsuits brought by GPCI to enforce its proprietary
rights were settled by the defendants by licensing GPCI's
patents. These patents are available for a non-exclusive
license from Acticon Technologies on favorable terms.
